Genuine Mazda Alternator Adjuster Spacer Block – 1.6
Replacement Genuine Mazda alternator adjustment spacer block for Mazda MX-5 Mk1 NA models fitted with the 1.6-litre petrol engine.
The spacer block forms part of the upper alternator adjustment mechanism. The long adjustment bolt passes through the block and allows the alternator to be moved along its adjustment range to set the correct alternator and water-pump drive-belt tension.
Once the belt tension has been set, the associated locking hardware secures the spacer block and alternator in position. A seized, damaged or missing spacer block can make belt adjustment difficult and may prevent the alternator from remaining securely aligned.
One spacer block is fitted per vehicle, and this listing supplies one Genuine Mazda component. The long adjustment bolt, spacer-block fixing bolt and other alternator mounting hardware are supplied separately.
Important fitment restriction: FP02-18-363 is for the alternator adjustment arrangement used on Mk1 NA 1.6 models. Mk1 1.8 and all Mk2/Mk2.5 models use a different spacer block and associated adjustment hardware.

Fitment advice: Confirm that the vehicle retains the original Mk1 1.6 alternator mounting and adjustment arrangement. Do not use this spacer with Mk1 1.8 or Mk2/Mk2.5 hardware unless the complete mounting system has been converted.
Replacement advice: Inspect the long adjustment bolt, spacer-block fixing bolt, alternator bracket and all corresponding threads before installation. A new spacer block will not correct damaged adjustment-bolt threads or a cracked mounting bracket.
Other items to consider: Inspect the alternator and water-pump drive belt for cracking, glazing, fraying or contamination. Check the lower pivot bolt, alternator bearings, water-pump pulley, crankshaft pulley and surrounding mounting hardware.
Useful tools / consumables: Socket and spanner set, calibrated torque wrench, penetrating fluid, wire brush, thread-cleaning tools and suitable belt-tension measuring equipment.
Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Access is generally straightforward, although corrosion or seized adjustment hardware may make removal more difficult.
Why Genuine Mazda? Genuine Mazda alternator adjustment components match the original dimensions, bolt alignment, adjustment range and material specification. Correct geometry helps the alternator move smoothly and remain securely positioned after the drive belt has been tensioned.
What’s in the box: One Genuine Mazda alternator adjuster spacer block, part number FP02-18-363.
Installation notes: Disconnect the battery before working around the alternator. Support the alternator and loosen the lower pivot and upper adjustment hardware. Remove the adjustment bolt and original spacer block, then inspect and clean all associated threads. Position the replacement block in the original orientation and pass the correct adjustment bolt through it without forcing or cross-threading the components. Set the drive belt to the specified tension, then tighten the pivot, spacer-block and adjustment hardware to the applicable Mazda specifications. Recheck belt tracking and tension after installation.
