Genuine Mazda PPF Bracket & Front Lower Ball Joint Flange Bolt

Replacement Genuine Mazda flange bolt for Mazda MX-5 Mk1 NA and Mk2/Mk2.5 NB models, used at the lower Power Plant Frame mounting bracket and, on Mk2/Mk2.5 models, at the vertical front lower ball-joint mounting positions.

The Power Plant Frame, commonly abbreviated to PPF, forms the rigid structural connection between the gearbox and differential. This bolt secures the lower PPF mounting bracket and helps maintain the intended alignment of the transmission and differential assembly.

On Mk2 and Mk2.5 models, Mazda also uses the same bolt at the vertical mounting point of each front lower ball joint. This fastener is positioned vertically below the lower shock-absorber bush and secures the ball-joint assembly to the lower suspension arm.

One bolt is used at the lower PPF bracket on every Mk1 and Mk2/Mk2.5 MX-5. Mk2 and Mk2.5 models additionally use one bolt at each front lower ball joint, giving two suspension applications per vehicle.

Quantity information: This listing supplies one bolt. Order one for the PPF bracket, two when renewing both Mk2/Mk2.5 front lower ball-joint vertical bolts, or three when replacing all confirmed positions on a Mk2/Mk2.5 vehicle.

  • Part type: Flange bolt
  • Common names: PPF bracket bolt / lower PPF bolt / front lower ball-joint vertical bolt
  • Mazda catalogue description: Bolt, Flange
  • PPF location: Lower Power Plant Frame mounting bracket
  • Suspension location: Vertical front lower ball-joint mounting point
  • PPF application: Mk1 NA and Mk2/Mk2.5 NB
  • Suspension application: Mk2/Mk2.5 NB only
  • Quantity used at PPF bracket: 1 per vehicle
  • Quantity used at front lower ball joints: 2 per Mk2/Mk2.5 vehicle
  • Maximum confirmed quantity per Mk2/Mk2.5 vehicle: 3
  • Quantity supplied: 1 bolt
  • Nut included: No
  • Washer included: No
  • PPF bracket included: No
  • Ball joint included: No
  • Brand: Genuine Mazda
  • Part No.: 99756-1225H

Typical reasons for replacement:

  • Bolt seized through corrosion
  • Threads damaged or cross-threaded
  • Bolt head rounded during removal
  • Bolt bent, stretched or fractured
  • Original fastener missing
  • Power Plant Frame removal or adjustment
  • Lower PPF bracket replacement
  • Front lower ball-joint replacement on Mk2/Mk2.5 models
  • Previously fitted incorrect or non-standard hardware

Fitment advice: Identify the mounting position before ordering. The PPF application fits Mk1 and Mk2/Mk2.5 models, while the confirmed front lower ball-joint vertical application is restricted to Mk2 and Mk2.5 models.

PPF replacement advice: Inspect the lower mounting bracket, surrounding PPF structure, corresponding threaded aperture, spacers and washers. Maintain the correct PPF alignment during installation, as incorrect positioning can introduce drivetrain vibration or place stress on the gearbox and differential mountings.

Suspension replacement advice: Inspect the lower ball joint, lower arm, bolt aperture and surrounding mounting surfaces. Replace any fastener showing corrosion, thread damage, necking or distortion. Suspension geometry should be checked after dismantling lower-arm or ball-joint mountings.

Other items to consider: For PPF work, inspect the remaining PPF bolts, mounting bracket, washers, gearbox mount and differential mounting hardware. For suspension work, inspect the ball-joint boot, castle nut, split pin, lower arm bushes and the associated horizontal ball-joint bolt.

Useful tools / consumables: Socket and spanner set, calibrated torque wrench, penetrating fluid, wire brush, thread-cleaning tools, suitable drivetrain support and vehicle lifting equipment.

Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Moderate. PPF work requires the drivetrain assembly to remain correctly supported and aligned. Ball-joint work requires secure vehicle support and may involve heavily corroded suspension hardware.

Why Genuine Mazda? Genuine Mazda fasteners match the original thread specification, shank length, flange profile and strength requirements. Correct hardware is particularly important at drivetrain-alignment and suspension mounting points exposed to significant operating loads.

What’s in the box: One Genuine Mazda flange bolt, part number 99756-1225H.

Installation notes: Safely support the relevant drivetrain or suspension component before removing the original bolt. Clean and inspect the corresponding threads and mounting surfaces. Start the replacement bolt by hand to prevent cross-threading and tighten it using the applicable Mazda procedure. When working on the PPF, preserve or restore the specified gearbox-to-differential alignment before final tightening. When working on a front lower ball joint, ensure the joint is fully seated and arrange a suspension and wheel-alignment inspection after reassembly.
