The Power Plant Frame, commonly abbreviated to PPF, is the rigid aluminium beam connecting the gearbox to the rear differential. It maintains the intended alignment between the gearbox and differential while transferring drivetrain loads through the vehicle.
This is the long, shouldered bolt fitted at the front differential-to-PPF mounting point. It passes through the Power Plant Frame and the associated top-hat spacer before securing the assembly to the differential mounting arrangement.
The stepped section of the bolt locates inside the corresponding spacer and mounting assembly. It should not be replaced with a conventional fully threaded bolt of similar length, as the shoulder dimensions form part of the original PPF locating and clamping arrangement.

Associated spacer: This bolt passes through the dedicated PPF top-hat spacer, Mazda part number NA01-39-723. The spacer should be inspected and replaced if distorted, corroded, missing or damaged.
Important: This is the stepped bolt used with the top-hat spacer at the front of the differential. Other PPF positions use different bolts and washer arrangements, so confirm the mounting position before installation.
