Genuine Mazda Rear Toe / Tracking Adjustment Bolt Kit

Three-piece Genuine Mazda rear toe-adjustment kit for all Mazda MX-5 Mk3, Mk3.5 and Mk3.75 NC models with 1.8- or 2.0-litre petrol engines.

This eccentric alignment assembly is fitted at the inner mounting point of the rear toe-control arm. Rotating the adjustment bolt and cam plate moves the inner arm mounting position, allowing the rear toe or tracking angle to be set during four-wheel geometry alignment.

Correct rear toe is important for stable handling, predictable steering response and even tyre wear. A seized, corroded or damaged adjuster can prevent the rear suspension geometry from being set correctly.

Each kit contains one Genuine Mazda eccentric adjustment bolt, one Genuine Mazda cam plate and one Genuine Mazda self-locking nut. One assembly is fitted on each side of the vehicle, so two kits are required to replace both rear toe adjusters.

Early-model note: Some early Mk3 NC vehicles were originally fitted with an adjuster bolt using a smaller head. This later assembly can still be used; only the required spanner or socket size differs.

Typical reasons for replacement:

  • Eccentric bolt seized inside the suspension-bush sleeve
  • Adjustment hardware heavily corroded
  • Cam plate distorted, worn or damaged
  • Bolt threads damaged or cross-threaded
  • Nut seized, rounded or damaged during removal
  • Adjuster no longer moves through its full range
  • Rear toe cannot be set correctly during alignment
  • Rear toe-control arm or inner bush being replaced
  • Original adjuster cut out during suspension repairs
  • Incorrect non-eccentric hardware previously installed

Quantity advice: This listing supplies one three-piece adjustment kit for one side of the vehicle. Order two kits to replace both the left- and right-hand rear toe adjusters.

Fitment advice: This kit is used at the inner mounting point of the rear toe-control arm. It should not be confused with the separate pinch bolt used at the outer toe-arm connection to the rear knuckle.

Replacement advice: Where the eccentric bolt has seized inside the suspension-bush sleeve, removal may require cutting the original hardware. Inspect the toe-control arm bush and inner sleeve before installing the replacement components.

Bush inspection: Check the associated bush for splitting, deterioration, excessive movement or separation from its sleeve. New alignment hardware will not correct a worn or damaged suspension bush.

Mounting-point inspection: Inspect the rear subframe adjustment slots and cam-plate seating surfaces for corrosion, distortion, elongation or impact damage. The cam plate must seat correctly against the locating surfaces for accurate adjustment.

Alignment advice: Mark the original cam position before dismantling to provide an approximate starting point. A professional four-wheel geometry alignment is required after installation.

Tightening advice: Set the eccentric position during the alignment procedure and tighten the nut using the applicable Mazda workshop specification. Follow the prescribed suspension-position requirements before final tightening.

Other items to inspect: Check the rear toe-control arm, outer knuckle pinch bolt, suspension bushes, rear lateral links, trailing arms and the adjuster assembly on the opposite side.

Useful tools / consumables: Vehicle lift or axle stands, socket and spanner set, breaker bar, calibrated torque wrench, penetrating fluid, alignment reference marker, cutting equipment where seized hardware must be removed and suitable corrosion protection.

Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Moderate to Advanced. Replacement is relatively straightforward where the original adjuster remains free, but a bolt seized into the bush sleeve can substantially increase the work required.

Why Genuine Mazda? Genuine Mazda adjustment hardware matches the original bolt dimensions, eccentric offset, cam-plate profile, thread and mounting arrangement. Correct eccentric geometry is essential for retaining the intended rear toe-adjustment range.

What’s in the box: One Genuine Mazda eccentric adjustment bolt, part number KD35-28-66Z; one Genuine Mazda cam plate, part number KD35-28-473; and one Genuine Mazda self-locking nut, part number 9YB04-1216.

Installation notes: Raise and support the vehicle safely, then mark the position of the original eccentric adjuster before removal. Remove the nut, cam plate and bolt, using suitable cutting methods if the bolt is seized inside the bush sleeve. Clean and inspect the bush, rear subframe slots and cam seating surfaces. Install the replacement components in the correct orientation, start the nut by hand and position the eccentric close to its recorded setting. Tighten according to the Mazda workshop procedure and complete a full four-wheel geometry alignment before normal road use.
