Replacement Genuine Mazda rear brake disc dust shield for Mazda MX-5 Mk1 NA 1.8 and Mk2 / Mk2.5 NB models fitted with standard 251 mm rear brake discs.
This pressed-steel shield is fitted behind the rear brake disc and wheel hub. It helps protect the disc, caliper and surrounding braking components from stones, road debris, dirt and direct water spray.
The shield also provides separation between the rotating brake disc and the surrounding rear suspension and hub components. Correct clearance is important to prevent contact with the disc during normal wheel rotation.
Rear brake shields are continuously exposed to road salt, water, debris and repeated brake-temperature cycles. Over time, the steel can corrode around its outer edge or mounting area, causing the shield to weaken, detach or rub against the rotating brake disc.
This component is not handed and fits either the left- or right-hand rear hub. There are two shields fitted per vehicle. This listing supplies one Genuine Mazda shield, so select a quantity of two when replacing both sides.
