Full-synthetic Red Line transmission lubricant for manual transmissions and transaxles requiring SAE 75W80 / 80W API GL-4 or a specifically supported equivalent specification as listed in the compatibility table.
MTL® is a high-performance manual transmission lubricant designed around the friction requirements of synchronised gearboxes. Its formulation helps provide clean synchroniser engagement, quicker shifting and strong protection for gears and synchronisers.
Red Line states that MTL® is safe for brass synchronisers because it does not contain the reactive sulphur chemistry used in many GL-5 differential oils. Its balanced friction characteristics can also help reduce notchy shifting, particularly when the transmission is cold.
MTL® is recommended for API GL-4, GL-3 and GL-1 manual transmission applications, SAE 75W80 / 80W requirements and many special synchromesh-fluid specifications. Fitment advice: Use MTL® where SAE 75W80 / 80W API GL-4 manual transmission lubricant or one of Red Line's specifically listed equivalent specifications is required. It is a manual transmission and transaxle lubricant and should not be selected for a hypoid differential simply because a similar gear-oil viscosity is specified.
Other items to consider: When changing manual transmission oil, you may also want to consider replacement drain and fill plug washers, gearbox seals and related drivetrain service components where required.
Useful tools / consumables: Fluid transfer pump, drain pan, suitable sockets or spanners, torque wrench, gloves, workshop towels and brake cleaner for external clean-up.
