Fits Mazda MX-5 Mk1 / NA 1.8 and MX-5 Mk2 / NB 1.6 & 1.8 models using the standard 254mm vented front brake discs with Sumitomo front calipers. Not suitable for models using the larger 270mm Sport brake package.

The EBC PD14KF002 front brake upgrade kit combines a pair of EBC GD Sport dimpled and slotted front brake discs with a complete axle set of EBC Bluestuff NDX performance brake pads. It is designed as a direct-fit upgrade for compatible Mazda MX-5 models using the original 254mm front brake arrangement.

This kit combines EBC GD799 front discs with EBC DP51002NDX Bluestuff front pads, providing a matched EBC braking package aimed at enthusiastic fast-road driving, trackdays and entry-level club-level performance use.

Bluestuff NDX Brake Pads

EBC Bluestuff NDX is a high-friction performance compound developed for demanding fast-road, trackday and entry-level competition use. The NDX compound has a published friction level of approximately 0.52 Mu and is designed to retain consistent braking characteristics over a considerably higher working range than a conventional road-focused pad.

Bluestuff NDX is surface-scorched to help accelerate bedding-in and provides useful friction from cold, making it particularly well suited to cars that are driven to and from trackdays rather than transported exclusively for circuit use. EBC lists Bluestuff NDX as ECE R90 approved for most applications, including application data supporting this MX-5 fitment.

EBC GD Sport Brake Discs

The matching GD Sport discs feature EBC's wide-aperture slot and dimple pattern. The slots help clear brake dust, water, gases and debris from the pad contact area while helping control temperature during repeated braking. The dimples provide a degassing effect without using fully through-drilled holes, reducing the stress concentration associated with conventional cross-drilled designs.

The GD799 discs are manufactured to the original 254mm front disc dimensions for the applications listed, allowing them to fit the standard braking system without requiring a big-brake conversion.

Typical Reasons for Replacement or Upgrade:

  • Existing front brake discs have reached their minimum thickness
  • Brake discs are heavily scored, corroded or suffering from excessive runout
  • Front brake pads are worn or approaching their service limit
  • Upgrading from standard road-focused pads and discs for more demanding driving
  • Preparing a road car for fast-road driving or trackday use
  • Replacing discs and pads together to establish a fresh matched braking surface

Fitment Advice:

This kit is specifically for vehicles using the 254mm vented front disc and Sumitomo front caliper arrangement. Some MX-5 Mk2 / NB models, particularly Sport or upgraded brake-package cars, use larger 270mm front discs and require a different EBC kit.

Before ordering for an NB with a Sport specification, modified braking system or uncertain history, we recommend checking the existing front disc diameter. For imported, modified or previously repaired cars, matching the part number or component style on the part being replaced is recommended.

Brake discs should be fitted to thoroughly cleaned hub faces and checked for excessive runout during installation. New pads and discs must be bedded in progressively in accordance with EBC's current bedding-in procedure before being subjected to sustained heavy braking or circuit use.

Other Items to Consider:

  • Matching EBC rear brake pads and discs
  • Fresh high-performance brake fluid
  • Braided brake hoses for performance applications
  • Brake fitting hardware where worn or corroded
  • Brake cleaner
  • Suitable high-temperature brake lubricant for approved contact points

Useful Tools:

  • Torque wrench
  • Brake piston compressor / suitable piston tool
  • Brake cleaner
  • Wire brush or hub-cleaning tool
  • Dial indicator where checking disc runout

Difficulty Guide: Intermediate. Brake replacement requires safe vehicle lifting, correct torque procedures and careful preparation of the hub and braking components. Professional installation is recommended if you are not experienced with brake-system servicing.
