Fits Mazda MX-5 Mk3 / Mk3.5 / Mk3.75 NC 1.8 and 2.0 models from 2005-2015 using the standard 280mm solid rear brake discs with Sumitomo rear calipers.
The EBC PD03KR425 rear brake kit combines a complete axle set of EBC Yellowstuff 4000 Series performance brake pads with a matched pair of EBC Premium OE Replacement plain rear brake discs. It provides a direct-fit performance upgrade for compatible Mazda MX-5 NC models while retaining the original disc dimensions and braking system.
The kit consists of EBC DP41775R Yellowstuff rear brake pads and EBC D1197 Premium OE Replacement rear brake discs. EBC application data supports this combination across both 1.8 and 2.0-litre MX-5 NC models.

Yellowstuff 4000 Series Brake Pads
EBC Yellowstuff is a high-friction performance brake pad developed primarily for fast-road use and higher-performance vehicles where increased braking capability is required. The compound provides strong friction characteristics from cold, making it suitable for road-driven performance cars without requiring the brakes to be brought up to temperature before providing effective braking.
The DP41775R pads are fully shimmed, chamfered and slotted and incorporate EBC's Brake-In™ surface coating to assist initial pad seating. This application is ECE R90 approved for road use.
EBC's current application data classifies the DP41775R as a fast-street pad rather than a dedicated track pad. For an MX-5 intended primarily for repeated circuit use, EBC Bluestuff NDX or one of EBC's more track-focused compounds may be more appropriate.
EBC Premium OE Replacement Brake Discs
The matching D1197 discs are EBC Premium OE-style direct replacements designed to retain the dimensions and installation arrangement of the original rear brake discs. Current production EBC replacement rotors use the company's Gen 3 Silver Grey corrosion-resistant surface coating, helping protect non-friction surfaces from corrosion while maintaining an OE-style appearance.
Unlike EBC GD, USR or BSD performance discs, the D1197 uses a conventional plain braking surface. This makes the PD03 kit a useful choice for customers wanting the increased friction characteristics of Yellowstuff pads while retaining an OE-style rear disc.
Typical Reasons for Replacement or Upgrade:
- Existing rear brake discs have reached or are approaching their minimum thickness
- Rear discs are heavily corroded, scored or suffering from excessive runout
- Rear brake pads are worn or approaching their service limit
- Upgrading from standard road-focused pads for more demanding fast-road driving
- Replacing rear pads and discs together as a complete matched EBC package
- Refreshing an ageing MX-5 NC rear braking system
Fitment Advice:
This kit is specifically for the 280mm solid rear disc and Sumitomo rear brake system used on compatible Mazda MX-5 NC models.
For imported, modified or previously repaired cars, matching the part number or component style on the part being replaced is recommended.
Rear brake discs should be installed onto thoroughly cleaned, corrosion-free hub faces. Particular care should be taken when servicing the rear calipers because the MX-5 NC rear braking system incorporates the mechanical handbrake mechanism into the caliper assembly.
All fasteners should be tightened to the appropriate Mazda torque specification and the new pads and discs should be progressively bedded according to EBC's current bedding procedure.
Other Items to Consider:
- Matching EBC Yellowstuff front brake pads and discs
- Fresh brake fluid
- Braided brake hoses for performance applications
- Rear brake fitting hardware where worn or corroded
- Brake cleaner
- Suitable high-temperature brake lubricant for approved contact points
Useful Tools:
- Torque wrench
- Suitable rear brake piston wind-back tool
- Brake cleaner
- Wire brush or hub-cleaning tool
- Dial indicator where checking brake disc runout
Difficulty Guide: Intermediate. Rear brake replacement requires safe vehicle lifting, correct preparation of the hub and caliper components and correct operation of the rear caliper / handbrake mechanism. Professional installation is recommended where the installer is not experienced with braking systems.
