RIDEX PLUS 10C0038P Alternator & Water Pump V-Belt
Replacement RIDEX PLUS alternator and water-pump V-belt for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6-litre petrol models listed in the compatibility table.
The V-belt transfers rotation from the engine crankshaft pulley to the alternator and water pump. This allows the alternator to charge the battery and supply the vehicle’s electrical system while the water pump circulates coolant through the engine and radiator.
This is a traditional trapezoidal V-belt measuring 900 mm long and 13 mm wide. One belt is required for the applicable alternator and water-pump drive position, and one belt is supplied.
Important: This belt is intended for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6-litre models only. The Mk1/NA 1.8-litre engine and all Mk2/NB models use a different multi-rib belt.
Common reasons for replacement include cracking, glazing, frayed edges, stretching, contamination, belt squeal, charging-system faults, overheating caused by loss of water-pump drive or visible deterioration during routine servicing.

Fitment advice: This belt is intended for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6-litre models using the corresponding Mazda V-belt arrangement. It is not suitable for the Mk1/NA 1.8-litre engine or Mk2/NB models, which use a different multi-rib belt. Accessory-drive specification can vary where an engine, alternator, water pump or pulley has previously been replaced. Match the Mazda reference, 13 mm belt width and original belt length before installation.
Other items to consider: When changing this part, you may also want to consider purchasing the separate power-steering or air-conditioning belt where fitted, alternator-adjustment hardware, water-pump pulley fixings, crankshaft pulley, water pump and any worn or corroded adjustment components.
Useful tools / consumables: Socket and spanner set, extension bars, torque wrench, belt-tension gauge where available, inspection lamp, belt-routing reference and suitable protective gloves.
Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Replacement requires loosening the alternator mounting and adjustment mechanism, routing the new belt correctly and setting the belt tension without overtightening it.
Why RIDEX PLUS? RIDEX PLUS components are developed as an enhanced aftermarket range with reinforced construction and application-specific dimensions. The belt uses polyester reinforcement and a wear-resistant elastomer body intended to provide reliable grip, reduced stretching and controlled accessory drive.
What’s in the box: One RIDEX PLUS 900 mm × 13 mm alternator and water-pump V-belt. Pulleys, adjustment hardware and any separate power-steering or air-conditioning belt are not included.
Installation notes: Allow the engine to cool and note the existing belt-routing path before removal. Loosen the alternator pivot, locking and adjustment fixings according to the vehicle arrangement. Move the alternator inward to release the belt tension and remove the old belt. Inspect the crankshaft, water-pump and alternator pulleys for wear, corrosion, misalignment, damaged grooves or rough bearings. Route the replacement belt correctly and ensure that it sits fully within each V-shaped pulley groove. Adjust the tension according to the applicable vehicle specification; excessive tension can damage the alternator and water-pump bearings, while insufficient tension can cause slipping, squealing, poor charging and reduced coolant circulation. Tighten the adjustment and mounting fixings correctly, rotate the engine manually where appropriate and recheck belt seating and tension. Start the engine and confirm that the belt tracks centrally without abnormal noise or vibration.
