Replacement RIDEX metal cylinder head gasket for Mazda MX-5 Mk3/NC 1.8-litre petrol models.

Important fitment restriction: This gasket is specifically confirmed for the 1.8-litre NC engine only. Mazda MX-5 Mk3/NC 2.0-litre variants require a different cylinder head gasket.

The cylinder head gasket seals the joint between the cylinder block and cylinder head. It must maintain combustion pressure while keeping engine oil and coolant passages sealed from each other. Because the gasket is compressed during installation, it must not be reused after the cylinder head has been removed.

Fitment advice: MazSpec confirms RIDEX 318G0183 for all Mazda MX-5 Mk3/NC 1.8 applications from March 2005 through December 2014. The 2.0-litre NC uses a different gasket and must not be allocated to this part.

Common replacement reasons: Cylinder head removal, combustion-gas leakage into the cooling system, coolant loss, oil and coolant contamination, overheating-related gasket failure, low compression between cylinders or visible sealing failure during engine dismantling.

Other items to consider: Inspect the cylinder head for distortion or cracking, check the block and head sealing faces, inspect the cooling system and determine the original cause of any overheating. Cylinder head bolts, rocker-cover gaskets, intake/exhaust manifold gaskets, coolant and engine oil may also require replacement during the repair.

Installation notes: Do not reuse the old cylinder head gasket. Follow the applicable Mazda workshop procedure when removing and refitting the cylinder head. Thoroughly clean and inspect the head and block sealing faces without damaging them, check cylinder-head flatness and investigate any overheating damage. Install the new gasket in the correct orientation, use the specified cylinder head fasteners and follow the correct tightening sequence, torque values and angle stages. Re-establish engine timing correctly before starting the engine and refill and bleed the cooling system as required.
