RIDEX 3922L0462 Pre-Cat / Upstream Lambda Sensor – MX-5 Mk3 NC 1.8 & 2.0

Direct-fit RIDEX heated oxygen / lambda sensor for Mazda MX-5 Mk3 / Mk3.5 / Mk3.75 NC 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrol models.

Installation position: This is the pre-catalytic converter / upstream / first lambda sensor in the exhaust system. MazSpec confirms it is supplied as a complete sensor with the correct plug, so no soldering or universal wiring modifications are required.

The upstream lambda sensor measures oxygen content in the exhaust gas before the catalytic converter. Its signal allows the engine-management system to continually correct the air/fuel mixture for efficient combustion, stable emissions control and correct catalytic-converter operation.

MX-5 fitment: MazSpec confirms 3922L0462 for all Mazda MX-5 Mk3/NC model years, covering the 1.8 126 PS and 2.0 160 PS petrol engines from 2005 through 2014. RIDEX independently lists the same NC 1.8 and 2.0 application range.

Common replacement reasons: Engine-management warning light, oxygen-sensor fault codes, unstable fuel trim, poor fuel economy, hesitation, emissions-test failure, damaged sensor wiring or a slow / incorrect sensor response identified during diagnosis.

Other items to consider: Before replacing the sensor, inspect the exhaust system for leaks ahead of the sensor, check the sensor connector and wiring, and investigate intake leaks, ignition faults or fuelling problems that could produce misleading lambda readings.

Useful tools / consumables: Lambda-sensor socket or suitable 22 mm oxygen-sensor tool, ratchet / breaker bar, penetrating fluid where required, diagnostic scan tool and torque wrench.

Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Moderate. Electrical connection is straightforward because the sensor is supplied with the correct plug, but removal can be difficult where the original sensor has seized into the exhaust through repeated heat cycling.

Why RIDEX? RIDEX engine-management sensors provide a cost-effective direct-fit aftermarket replacement manufactured to application-specific electrical and mechanical specifications. This sensor uses the correct M18 × 1.5 thread, 225 mm lead and four-pin connector for the supported Mazda application.

What’s in the box: One RIDEX 3922L0462 pre-cat / upstream lambda sensor complete with wiring lead and connector.

Installation notes: Allow the exhaust system to cool before removal. Disconnect the electrical connector without pulling on the wiring, then remove the original sensor using an appropriate lambda-sensor socket. Compare the connector, cable length and thread with the replacement before installation. Avoid contaminating the sensing element. Install and tighten the replacement to the applicable specification, route the cable clear of hot or moving components and reconnect the plug securely. Clear stored fault codes where appropriate and confirm correct live sensor operation after installation.
