RIDEX PLUS 305P0017P Alternator & Water Pump Auxiliary Belt
Replacement RIDEX PLUS alternator and water-pump auxiliary belt for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.8-litre and Mazda MX-5 Mk2/NB and Mk2.5/NB-FL 1.6 and 1.8-litre petrol models listed in the compatibility table.
The auxiliary belt transfers rotation from the crankshaft pulley to the alternator and engine water pump. This allows the alternator to charge the battery and supply the vehicle’s electrical system while the water pump circulates coolant through the engine and radiator.
This is a four-rib, one-sided EPDM belt measuring 884 mm long. It is installed around the crankshaft, alternator and water-pump pulleys. One belt is required for the applicable drive position and one belt is supplied.
Common reasons for replacement include cracking between the ribs, frayed edges, glazing, stretching, contamination, squealing, charging-system faults, coolant-temperature problems caused by loss of water-pump drive or visible deterioration during routine servicing.

Fitment advice: This belt is intended for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.8-litre models and Mk2/NB and Mk2.5/NB-FL 1.6 and 1.8-litre models using the corresponding Mazda reference family. The Mk1/NA 1.6-litre engine uses a different alternator and water-pump belt and is not included. Accessory-drive specification can vary where engines, alternators, water pumps or pulleys have previously been replaced. For imported, modified or previously repaired cars, matching the Mazda reference, four-rib profile and original belt length is recommended.
Other items to consider: When changing this part, you may also want to consider purchasing the separate power-steering or air-conditioning belt where fitted, alternator-adjustment hardware, water-pump pulley fixings, crankshaft pulley, water pump and any worn or corroded belt-adjustment components.
Useful tools / consumables: Socket and spanner set, extension bars, torque wrench, belt-tension gauge where available, inspection lamp, belt-routing reference and suitable protective gloves.
Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Replacement requires loosening the alternator mounting and adjustment mechanism, routing the new belt correctly and setting the belt tension without overtightening it.
Why RIDEX PLUS? RIDEX PLUS components are developed as an enhanced aftermarket range, combining application-specific fitment with upgraded product construction and quality control. They provide a cost-effective premium replacement option for routine servicing, repair and vehicle refurbishment.
What’s in the box: One RIDEX PLUS 884 mm four-rib alternator and water-pump auxiliary belt. Pulleys, tensioning hardware and any separate power-steering or air-conditioning belt are not included.
Installation notes: Allow the engine to cool and note the existing belt routing before removal. Loosen the alternator pivot, locking and adjustment fixings according to the vehicle arrangement. Move the alternator inward to release belt tension and remove the old belt. Inspect the crankshaft, water-pump and alternator pulleys for damaged grooves, corrosion, misalignment or rough bearings. Route the replacement belt correctly and ensure that all four ribs sit fully within the pulley grooves. Adjust the tension according to the applicable vehicle specification; excessive tension can damage the alternator and water-pump bearings, while insufficient tension can cause slipping and overheating. Tighten the adjustment and mounting fixings correctly, rotate the engine manually where appropriate and recheck belt seating and tension. Start the engine and confirm that the belt tracks centrally without squealing, vibration or movement towards the edge of any pulley.
