The rear brake discs rotate with the wheel hubs and provide the friction surfaces against which the rear brake pads clamp. The resulting friction converts vehicle movement into heat and slows the vehicle.

These solid cast-iron discs measure approximately 231 mm in diameter and 9 mm thick. They are designed for the standard rear disc-brake arrangement used on applicable Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6-litre models.

Fitment advice: These discs correspond with the Mazda B461-26-251, B4Y2-26-251, NA01-26-251 and SA01-26-251 reference families. For the Mazda MX-5, they are suitable only for Mk1/NA 1.6-litre models using approximately 231 × 9 mm rear discs. Before ordering, compare the original disc diameter, thickness, overall height, centre bore and OE reference. The Mk1 1.8 and all later MX-5 generations require different rear discs.

Other items to consider: Brake discs should normally be replaced in axle pairs together with a suitable new rear brake-pad set. Also inspect the rear caliper pistons, slider pins, dust boots, pad fitting hardware, flexible brake hoses, parking-brake mechanism and brake-fluid condition.

Installation notes: Support the vehicle securely and remove both rear wheels. Release the parking brake before dismantling the rear braking system. Remove the brake calipers and support them without allowing their weight to hang from the flexible hoses. Remove the caliper carriers and existing discs. Clean the wheel-hub faces thoroughly and remove corrosion or debris that could cause disc run-out. Degrease the braking surfaces of the new discs using suitable brake cleaner. Install each disc squarely against its hub and refit the carriers and calipers using the applicable tightening specifications. Retract the rear caliper pistons using the correct wind-back procedure and fit new brake pads where appropriate. Refit the wheels, tighten the wheel nuts to the correct torque and operate the brake pedal until firm before moving the vehicle. Restore and test the parking brake, then bed in the new discs and pads according to the brake-pad manufacturer’s instructions.
