RIDEX 402B0390 Rear Brake Pad Set – MX-5 Mk1 NA 1.6

Replacement RIDEX rear brake-pad set for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6-litre models fitted with the standard rear disc-brake system.

The brake pads fit inside the rear brake calipers and clamp against the rotating brake discs when hydraulic pressure is applied. The resulting friction converts vehicle movement into heat and slows the vehicle.

This is a complete rear-axle set containing sufficient pads for both rear calipers. The pads comply with the ECE-R90 replacement-brake-lining standard.

Important fitment restriction: For the Mazda MX-5, this listing is restricted to Mk1/NA 1.6-litre models. The Mk1/NA 1.8 and all Mk2/NB models require a different rear brake-pad set.

Common reasons for replacement include reduced friction-material thickness, brake noise, uneven wear, deterioration or corrosion of the backing plates, contamination, reduced braking performance or replacement alongside worn rear brake discs.

Fitment advice: These pads are confirmed for the standard rear braking arrangement used on Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6-litre models. Compare the original pad profile, 102.3 × 39.3 × 13.5 mm dimensions, WVA 21559 and relevant Mazda OE reference before installation. Do not assume compatibility with a Mk1 1.8, Mk2/NB or a vehicle fitted with a brake conversion.

Other items to consider: Inspect the rear brake discs, caliper pistons, slider pins, dust boots, pad fitting hardware, flexible brake hoses, parking-brake mechanism and brake-fluid condition. Worn, heavily scored, corroded or undersized discs should be replaced as a rear-axle pair.

Useful tools / consumables: Vehicle lift or trolley jack and axle stands, wheel-removal tools, socket and spanner set, torque wrench, rear caliper adjustment or piston-retraction tools, brake cleaner, approved slider-pin lubricant and suitable protective gloves and eyewear.

Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Moderate. Replacement requires secure support of the vehicle, correct adjustment or retraction of the rear caliper pistons and inspection of the parking-brake and caliper slider mechanisms.

Why RIDEX? RIDEX braking components provide a cost-effective aftermarket servicing option manufactured to application-specific dimensions. These pads comply with ECE-R90 requirements and are designed to provide consistent braking when installed with serviceable calipers and brake discs.

What’s in the box: One complete RIDEX rear brake-pad set for both rear calipers. Brake discs, pad-retaining hardware, caliper components and fitting consumables are not included unless physically present in the supplied package.

Installation notes: Support the vehicle securely and remove both rear wheels. Release the parking brake and inspect the original pad arrangement before dismantling. Remove the calipers and support them without allowing their weight to hang from the flexible brake hoses. Inspect the discs, pistons, slider pins, dust boots and pad-contact surfaces. Clean the caliper carriers and apply suitable brake lubricant only to approved sliding and contact points, keeping lubricant away from the pad friction material and disc surfaces. Retract or adjust the rear caliper pistons using the correct procedure, install the pads in the correct orientation and refit the calipers using the applicable tightening specifications. Operate the brake pedal until firm, restore and test the parking brake, check the brake-fluid level and bed in the pads according to the brake-pad manufacturer’s instructions.
