RIDEX 51T0159 Front Inner Tie Rod – LH or RH
Replacement RIDEX inner steering tie rod for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6 and 1.8-litre models listed in the compatibility table.
The inner tie rod connects the steering rack to the outer track-rod end. Movement generated by the steering rack passes through the inner tie rod and outer track-rod end to the steering knuckle, allowing the front wheels to turn accurately in response to steering-wheel input.
This component is installed beneath the steering-rack gaiter at the inner end of the front steering linkage. It is suitable for installation on either the left- or right-hand side and can be used on applicable left- or right-hand-drive vehicles. One tie rod is required per side and one tie rod is supplied.
Common symptoms of wear include free play in the steering, knocking or clicking over uneven roads, vague directional response, uneven front-tyre wear, difficulty maintaining correct wheel alignment or movement detected during an MOT inspection.

Fitment advice: This inner tie rod corresponds with Mazda references NA01-32-240 and NA02-32-240. Steering-rack specification can vary where a rack has previously been replaced or converted, so the thread sizes, overall length and original component reference should correspond with the replacement. For imported, modified or previously repaired cars, matching the part number or component style on the part being replaced is recommended.
Other items to consider: When changing this part, you may also want to consider purchasing an outer track-rod end, steering-rack gaiter, gaiter clips, lock washer, opposite-side inner tie rod, steering-rack mounting bushes and any required replacement nuts or split pins.
Useful tools / consumables: Vehicle lift or trolley jack and axle stands, wheel-removal tools, socket and spanner set, inner tie-rod removal tool, track-rod-end separator, torque wrench, penetrating fluid, paint marker, suitable steering-joint lubricant and new gaiter retaining clips.
Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Moderate to Advanced. Access requires removal of the outer track-rod end and steering-rack gaiter. A dedicated inner tie-rod tool may be needed, and the front-wheel alignment must be checked and adjusted after installation.
Why RIDEX? RIDEX parts are aftermarket replacement components designed to provide a cost-effective repair option for everyday vehicle maintenance and refurbishment. They are intended to replace the original component on the applications listed, helping restore function while keeping repair costs sensible.
What’s in the box: One RIDEX inner steering tie rod with the applicable installation accessories supplied in the package. The outer track-rod end and steering-rack gaiter are separate components unless physically included.
Installation notes: Support the vehicle securely and remove the appropriate front wheel. Mark or measure the original track-rod position before dismantling to provide an approximate starting point for alignment. Disconnect the outer track-rod end from the steering knuckle and remove the steering-rack gaiter. Release the old inner tie rod using the correct tool while supporting the steering rack as required. Inspect the rack, gaiter, breather passage and outer track-rod end for wear or damage. Install the replacement tie rod with the specified locking arrangement and tighten it to the applicable vehicle specification. Refit the gaiter without twisting it and secure it with suitable clips. Reassemble the outer steering joint, tighten all fixings correctly and arrange a complete front-wheel alignment before normal road use.
