Fits Mazda MX-5 Mk1 / NA 1.8 models from 1994-1998 and MX-5 Mk2 / Mk2.5 NB 1.6 & 1.8 models from 1998-2005 using the standard 254mm vented front brake discs with Sumitomo front calipers. Not suitable for NB Sport, Mazdaspeed / turbo or other models fitted with the larger front brake package.

The EBC PD03KF693 front brake kit combines a complete axle set of EBC Yellowstuff performance brake pads with a matched pair of EBC Premium OE Replacement plain front brake discs. It provides a complete direct-fit braking package for compatible Mazda MX-5 NA and NB models using the standard 254mm front brake arrangement.

The kit consists of EBC DP41002R Yellowstuff front brake pads and EBC D799 Premium OE Replacement front brake discs. It is particularly suited to enthusiast-driven road cars where increased fast-road braking capability is wanted while retaining a conventional plain OE-style brake disc.

Yellowstuff Brake Pads

EBC Yellowstuff is a high-friction performance brake pad developed primarily for fast-road use. It provides strong braking performance from cold together with increased resistance to repeated heavy braking, making it well suited to enthusiast-driven MX-5s where greater braking capability is required than from a conventional everyday replacement pad.

The DP41002R pads are fully shimmed, slotted and chamfered and incorporate EBC's Brake-In™ surface coating to assist initial bedding. This application is ECE R90 approved for road use.

EBC currently positions Yellowstuff principally as a fast-street / fast-road compound. Although suitable for demanding road use and shorter-duration performance driving, drivers building an MX-5 primarily for repeated circuit use should consider EBC Bluestuff or one of EBC's dedicated motorsport compounds.

EBC Premium OE Replacement Brake Discs

The matching D799 discs are EBC Premium plain brake discs designed as direct replacements for the original front rotors. They retain the standard 254mm diameter, 20mm thickness and four-bolt mounting arrangement used by the compatible MX-5 front braking system.

EBC's PD03 range pairs Yellowstuff pads with Premium G3000 OE-style discs to provide a direct-fit performance upgrade without requiring alterations to the standard brake system. The plain braking surface makes this kit particularly suitable for owners wanting upgraded pad performance while retaining a conventional OE-style front disc.

Typical Reasons for Replacement or Upgrade:

  • Existing front brake discs have reached or are approaching their minimum thickness
  • Front discs are heavily corroded, scored or suffering from excessive runout
  • Front brake pads are worn or approaching their service limit
  • Upgrading from standard road-focused pads for more demanding fast-road driving
  • Replacing front pads and discs together as a matched EBC package
  • Refreshing an ageing MX-5 NA or NB front braking system

Fitment Advice:

This kit is specifically for the 254mm vented front disc with Sumitomo front calipers.

On MX-5 Mk2 / Mk2.5 NB models, brake specifications vary. Sport, Mazdaspeed / turbo and other larger-brake applications can use approximately 270mm front discs and require a different EBC kit.

Measuring the existing front disc is recommended where the vehicle's braking specification is uncertain. For imported, modified or previously repaired cars, matching the part number or component style on the part being replaced is recommended.

Brake discs should be installed onto thoroughly cleaned and corrosion-free hub faces. Disc runout should be checked where appropriate, and all fasteners should be tightened to the correct Mazda torque specifications.

New pads and discs should be progressively bedded according to EBC's current bedding procedure before sustained heavy braking.

Other Items to Consider:

  • Matching EBC rear brake pads and discs
  • Fresh performance brake fluid
  • Braided brake hoses where appropriate
  • Brake fitting hardware where worn or corroded
  • Brake cleaner
  • Suitable high-temperature brake lubricant for approved contact points

Useful Tools:

  • Torque wrench
  • Brake piston compression tool
  • Brake cleaner
  • Wire brush or hub-cleaning tool
  • Dial indicator where checking brake disc runout

Difficulty Guide: Intermediate. Brake replacement requires safe vehicle lifting, correct hub preparation and accurate torque procedures. Professional installation is recommended where the installer is not experienced with brake-system servicing.
