Genuine Mazda NE55-41-92XA Clutch Release Slave Cylinder
Replacement Genuine Mazda clutch slave cylinder for Mazda MX-5 Mk3, Mk3.5 and Mk3.75 NC models fitted with a manual transmission.
The clutch slave cylinder forms part of the hydraulic clutch-release system. It is mounted externally on the gearbox and converts hydraulic pressure from the clutch master cylinder into mechanical movement of the clutch release fork.
When the clutch pedal is pressed, hydraulic fluid is displaced by the master cylinder and travels through the clutch pipe and flexible hose to the slave cylinder. The slave-cylinder piston then extends its pushrod against the release fork, moving the release bearing and disengaging the clutch.
A worn internal seal, damaged piston or corroded cylinder bore can allow fluid to leak or hydraulic pressure to bypass internally. This may prevent the clutch from disengaging fully and make gear selection difficult.
There is one clutch slave cylinder fitted per vehicle. This listing supplies one Genuine Mazda cylinder.

Possible signs of a failing clutch slave cylinder:
- Difficulty selecting first or reverse gear
- Gear engagement accompanied by grinding
- Clutch pedal remaining low or returning slowly
- Soft, inconsistent or spongy clutch-pedal feel
- Clutch biting point changing between uses
- Brake and clutch fluid level falling
- Hydraulic fluid visible around the slave-cylinder body or pushrod
- Air repeatedly entering the clutch hydraulic system
Fitment advice: This slave cylinder is for MX-5 NC vehicles fitted with a manual gearbox. It is not used on automatic-transmission vehicles. Inspect the original cylinder position and hydraulic connection where a replacement gearbox or modified clutch-release arrangement has been installed.
Other items to consider: Inspect the clutch master cylinder, rigid clutch pipe, flexible clutch hose, release fork, pushrod contact point and shared brake and clutch fluid reservoir. A deteriorated hose or leaking master cylinder can produce symptoms similar to slave-cylinder failure.
Fluid advice: Use only fresh brake and clutch fluid meeting the specification stated by Mazda. Do not reuse fluid expelled during bleeding, and prevent brake fluid from contacting painted surfaces.
Useful tools / consumables: Suitable socket and spanner set, flare-nut spanner, clear bleeding hose, fluid container, fresh brake and clutch fluid, calibrated torque wrench, protective gloves and absorbent cloths.
Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Moderate. The cylinder is externally accessible on the gearbox, but the hydraulic connection must be handled carefully and the clutch system must be bled thoroughly after installation.
Why Genuine Mazda? Genuine Mazda clutch cylinders are manufactured to match the original mounting dimensions, hydraulic connection, bore specification, pushrod travel and sealing arrangement. Correct geometry helps provide the intended clutch release travel and pedal operation.
What’s in the box: One Genuine Mazda clutch release slave cylinder, part number NE55-41-92XA.
Installation notes: Protect surrounding painted surfaces from brake fluid. Clean the hydraulic connection before disconnecting the pipe or hose, then cap the open line to minimise fluid loss and contamination. Remove the original cylinder, compare its pushrod and mounting arrangement with the replacement and install the new cylinder without forcing the hydraulic connection. Tighten all fasteners to the applicable Mazda workshop specifications, refill the reservoir with fresh fluid and bleed the clutch system until no air remains. Confirm correct pedal return, clutch disengagement and leak-free operation before road use.
