Genuine Mazda Rear Anti-Roll Bar Drop Link

Replacement Genuine Mazda rear anti-roll-bar drop link for all Mazda MX-5 Mk3, Mk3.5 and Mk3.75 NC models with 1.8- or 2.0-litre petrol engines.

The drop link connects the rear anti-roll bar to the rear suspension. As the suspension moves, the link transfers movement into the anti-roll bar, helping control body roll and maintain stable, predictable handling during cornering.

The link incorporates a ball joint at each end to accommodate suspension movement. Wear in either joint can produce knocking or rattling noises and reduce the effectiveness of the rear anti-roll bar.

The same link is fitted on both sides of the vehicle. Two links are required per MX-5, while this listing supplies one Genuine Mazda component.

Typical symptoms of a worn drop link:

  • Knocking or rattling from the rear suspension
  • Noise when travelling over small bumps or uneven roads
  • Excessive movement in one or both ball joints
  • Split or damaged ball-joint dust boots
  • Corrosion affecting the studs or link body
  • Drop-link stud rotating during removal
  • Original link bent or damaged by impact
  • Rear anti-roll bar or suspension components being replaced

Quantity advice: One link is fitted on each side of the rear axle. This listing supplies one link; order two when replacing both sides.

Fitment advice: F151-28-170 is not handed and can be installed on either the left- or right-hand side of the rear suspension.

Replacement advice: Inspect both rear drop links because components on opposite sides are exposed to similar mileage, road contamination and suspension movement. Pair replacement may be appropriate where both links show wear.

Nut inspection: Inspect or renew the self-locking mounting nuts as required. Do not reuse damaged, heavily corroded or ineffective locking hardware.

Joint inspection: Check both ball-joint dust boots for splitting or deterioration. A damaged boot can allow water and contamination into the joint and accelerate wear.

Other items to inspect: Check the rear anti-roll-bar bushes and brackets, rear suspension-arm bushes, shock absorbers and the drop link on the opposite side while the vehicle is raised.

Useful tools / consumables: Vehicle lift or axle stands, socket and spanner set, hex or Torx counter-hold tool where applicable, penetrating fluid, calibrated torque wrench and cutting equipment where the original link is seized.

Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Access is generally straightforward, although corroded ball-joint studs can rotate or seize and may require counter-holding or cutting during removal.

Why Genuine Mazda? Genuine Mazda rear drop links match the original length, ball-joint orientation, thread and suspension clearances. Correct dimensions help maintain normal anti-roll-bar operation without interference with surrounding suspension components.

What’s in the box: One Genuine Mazda rear anti-roll-bar drop link, part number F151-28-170.

Installation notes: Raise and support the vehicle safely before removing the original link. Apply penetrating fluid to corroded fasteners and counter-hold the ball-joint studs where required. Install the replacement link on either rear side, start the mounting nuts by hand and tighten them using the applicable Mazda workshop procedure. Confirm that the link clears all surrounding suspension components throughout suspension movement.
