Red Line Engine Oil Break-In Additive supplements conventional engine oil with zinc and phosphorus anti-wear chemistry, commonly referred to as ZDDP. This additional protection is particularly valuable for camshafts, lifters and other highly loaded valvetrain components during initial engine break-in.
The formulation allows a suitable conventional break-in oil to retain the friction characteristics needed to help piston rings seat correctly while providing additional anti-wear protection to other engine components.
Red Line also states that the additive can be used with conventional or synthetic engine oils during normal operation where an additional anti-wear additive package is specifically required.

Break-in use: Add the required quantity to the engine oil before initial start-up and follow the engine builder or component manufacturer's specified break-in procedure. One full bottle treats up to approximately 11.4 litres of engine oil, so smaller-capacity engines may require only part of the bottle.
Important application note: More additive is not automatically better. Zinc and phosphorus levels should be matched to the engine design, lubricant and break-in requirements. Modern road engines equipped with emissions-control systems may not require or benefit from elevated ZDDP concentrations during normal service.
