RIDEX 402B0859 Front Brake Pad Set – MX-5 Mk1 1.8 / Mk2 Standard Brakes

Replacement RIDEX front brake-pad axle set for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.8 and Mk2/NB / Mk2.5/NB-FL 1.6 or 1.8 models fitted with the applicable standard front brake system.

The brake pads sit inside the front brake calipers and clamp against the rotating brake discs when hydraulic pressure is applied. The resulting friction converts vehicle movement into heat and slows the vehicle.

Important fitment restrictions: This set is not for Mk1/NA 1.6 models, which require a different front pad. It is also not the correct pad for Mk2/NB or NB-FL vehicles fitted with the Sport / big-brake front braking system, and MazSpec does not list the 1.8 Turbo application against this SKU.

The set uses low-metallic friction material and includes anti-squeak plates, piston clip and vibration-damping features. One set provides the pads required for the complete front axle.

Fitment advice: MazSpec confirms this pad set for Mk1/NA 1.8 models and Mk2/NB / Mk2.5/NB-FL 1.6 and naturally aspirated 1.8 models with the standard brake system. Compare the original pad profile and relevant OE number before installation, particularly on NB-FL cars where more than one front brake package was available.

Common replacement reasons: Reduced friction-material thickness, uneven wear, brake noise, vibration, contaminated pads, deteriorated backing plates or replacement alongside worn or damaged front brake discs.

Other items to consider: Inspect the front brake discs, caliper pistons, slider pins, dust boots, pad hardware, flexible brake hoses and brake-fluid condition. Brake discs should normally be replaced as an axle pair if worn below specification, heavily scored, cracked or excessively corroded.

Useful tools / consumables: Trolley jack and axle stands or vehicle lift, wheel-removal tools, socket and spanner set, torque wrench, caliper-piston retraction tool, brake cleaner and appropriate brake lubricant for approved sliding/contact points.

Installation notes: Support the vehicle securely and remove both front wheels. Remove and support the calipers without allowing them to hang from the flexible brake hoses. Retract the caliper pistons using the correct tool, install the pads and supplied accessories in the correct orientation and refit all components to the applicable tightening specifications. Operate the brake pedal until firm before moving the vehicle, verify the brake-fluid level and bed the pads in appropriately.
