RIDEX 308T0024 Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley
Replacement RIDEX timing-belt tensioner pulley for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA, Mk2/NB and Mk2.5/NB-FL 1.6 and 1.8-litre petrol models listed in the compatibility table.
The tensioner pulley forms part of the engine’s camshaft timing-belt drive. It maintains the correct belt tension and guides the timing belt as it transfers rotation from the crankshaft to the camshafts.
Correct timing-belt tension is essential to maintain accurate valve timing and prevent the belt from jumping teeth, running off-centre or wearing prematurely.
This is the flat-faced tensioner pulley used alongside the separate timing-belt tensioner spring. One pulley is required per engine and one pulley is supplied.
Common reasons for replacement include bearing noise, roughness, free play, seizure, visible surface damage or replacement as part of a scheduled timing-belt service.

Fitment advice: This tensioner pulley corresponds with the Mazda B660-12-700 reference family and the Kia references shown in the reference table. It is used on the listed Mazda MX-5 NA and NB timing-belt engines. Compare the original pulley diameter, width, mounting arrangement and OE reference where the engine or timing components have previously been replaced.
Other items to consider: When changing this part, consider replacing the timing belt, timing-belt idler pulley, tensioner spring, water pump, camshaft seals, crankshaft seal and rocker-cover gasket. Timing-drive components are commonly replaced together to avoid repeated labour.
Useful tools / consumables: Socket and spanner set, crankshaft-pulley tools, torque wrench, timing-reference marks, engine-support equipment where required, seal-removal tools and suitable workshop documentation.
Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Advanced. Replacement requires access to the engine timing drive and accurate preservation or resetting of the crankshaft and camshaft timing positions.
Why RIDEX? RIDEX components provide a cost-effective aftermarket repair option manufactured to application-specific dimensions. This pulley is designed to restore smooth timing-belt guidance and controlled belt tension when used with correctly functioning associated timing components.
What’s in the box: One RIDEX timing-belt tensioner pulley. The timing belt, idler pulley, tensioner spring, mounting hardware and water pump are separate unless physically present in the supplied package.
Installation notes: Allow the engine to cool and set the crankshaft and camshafts to the applicable timing position before dismantling. Remove the timing covers and inspect the existing belt routing and timing marks. Release the timing-belt tension carefully and remove the original tensioner pulley. Inspect the mounting stud, tensioner spring, idler pulley, water pump and oil seals for wear or leakage. Install the replacement pulley and tighten its mounting hardware to the applicable specification. Fit and tension the timing belt using the correct Mazda procedure. Rotate the engine manually through at least two complete crankshaft revolutions and recheck all timing marks and belt tension before starting the engine.
