RIDEX 8A1671 Engine Air Filter – MX-5 Mk1 NA 1.6 & 1.8

Replacement RIDEX panel-style engine air filter for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6 and 1.8-litre petrol models.

The engine air filter removes dust, road debris and airborne contaminants from the incoming air before they reach the engine. Maintaining a clean filter helps preserve intake airflow while protecting the airflow meter, throttle body and internal engine components from abrasive contamination.

MX-5 fitment: MazSpec confirms 8A1671 across the Mk1/NA range, including the early 115 PS 1.6, later 90 PS 1.6 and 130–131 PS 1.8 applications. RIDEX independently lists MX-5 I/NA compatibility from May 1990 through April 1998 at 90–131 PS.

Fitment advice: Always compare the existing filter shape, dimensions and OE reference before installation, particularly where the vehicle has a modified intake or unknown service history. The element should sit squarely in the original airbox with its sealing edge fully seated.

Common replacement reasons: Routine engine servicing, dirty or blocked filter media, increased intake restriction, contamination by oil or moisture, or replacement where previous service history is unknown.

Related items to inspect: Check the airbox for loose debris, inspect the intake hose and clamps for cracking or air leakage and inspect the airflow-meter and throttle-body area where appropriate.

Useful tools / consumables: Basic hand tools as required for the airbox fasteners, clean cloths and a vacuum or suitable method of removing loose debris from the lower airbox.

Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Easy. Engine air-filter replacement is a routine maintenance operation and normally requires no specialist equipment.

Why RIDEX? RIDEX air filters provide a cost-effective aftermarket service replacement using application-specific dimensions and filter media designed to combine effective filtration with low airflow resistance.

What’s in the box: One RIDEX 8A1671 replacement engine air-filter insert.

Installation notes: Open the airbox and remove the existing element without allowing loose debris to enter the clean side of the intake. Clean the airbox, install the replacement filter in the correct orientation and ensure the sealing perimeter is fully seated. Refit the airbox securely and check any hoses, clips or electrical connections disturbed during the service.
