RIDEX 9F0188 In-Line Petrol Fuel Filter
Replacement RIDEX in-line petrol fuel filter for Mazda MX-5 Mk2/NB and Mk2.5/NB-FL 1.6 and 1.8-litre petrol models listed in the compatibility table.
The fuel filter removes dirt, corrosion particles and other fine contamination from the petrol supply before the fuel reaches the injectors and engine. Maintaining clean fuel flow helps protect the injectors, fuel-pressure components and internal engine parts.
This filter is installed in the vehicle’s fuel line and uses an 8 mm inlet and outlet connection. One filter is required per vehicle and one filter is supplied.
Common reasons for replacement include routine servicing, restricted fuel flow, hesitation under load, difficult starting, reduced engine performance, fuel-pressure faults or contamination discovered in the fuel system.

Fitment advice: This filter is intended primarily for the confirmed Mazda MX-5 NB and NB-FL applications shown in the compatibility table. Wider catalogue data also links the filter with selected late Mk1/NA models, but the original Mazda reference, 8 mm fuel-line connections and filter-body dimensions should correspond before installation. Fuel-system specification can vary on imported, modified or previously repaired vehicles.
Other items to consider: When changing this part, you may also want to consider purchasing fuel-resistant hose, suitable hose clips, a fuel-pump strainer, injector cleaner and any deteriorated rubber mounting components or protective covers around the filter.
Useful tools / consumables: Vehicle lift or trolley jack and axle stands, hose-clamp pliers, suitable fuel-line clamps, socket and spanner set, screwdrivers, drain container, workshop towels and appropriate eye and hand protection.
Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Moderate. The fuel system must be depressurised before the filter is removed, and petrol must be contained safely. Access beneath the vehicle and correct identification of the flow direction are required.
Why RIDEX? RIDEX parts are aftermarket replacement components designed to provide a cost-effective repair option for everyday vehicle servicing and refurbishment. They are intended to replace the original component on the applications listed, helping maintain fuel-system protection while keeping servicing costs sensible.
What’s in the box: One RIDEX in-line petrol fuel filter. Separate fuel hose, hose clips and mounting hardware are not included unless physically present in the supplied package.
Installation notes: Work in a well-ventilated area away from flames, sparks and hot components. Allow the vehicle to cool and depressurise the fuel system before disconnecting any pipe or hose. Clamp the fuel hoses using suitable non-damaging tools and position a container beneath the filter to catch residual petrol. Note the direction-of-flow arrow on the original filter and install the replacement in the same orientation. Inspect the hoses and clips for cracking, corrosion or loss of tension and replace them where required. Secure the filter correctly, reconnect the fuel system and prime it before starting the engine. Check carefully for leaks with the engine both stopped and running before returning the vehicle to normal use.
