RIDEX 914T0223 Outer Track Rod End – MX-5 NA/NB LH or RH

Replacement RIDEX outer steering track rod end for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA, Mk2/NB and Mk2.5/NB-FL models. The same component is suitable for either the front-left or front-right side.

The outer track rod end connects the steering linkage to the steering knuckle. Its articulated ball joint allows steering and suspension movement while transmitting steering input from the steering rack to the front wheel.

Side fitment: RIDEX specifies 914T0223 for the front axle, outer position, on both left and right sides. Two units are therefore required if replacing both outer track rod ends.

Common symptoms of a worn track rod end include steering play, knocking over uneven roads, vague steering response, uneven tyre wear, inability to maintain wheel alignment, movement at the steering joint or a damaged ball-joint dust boot.

Fitment advice: MazSpec confirms this track rod end throughout the Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA and Mk2/NB ranges through October 2005. Engine size does not alter the confirmed application, and MazSpec includes the later NB 1.8i Turbo. Compare the original component and OE reference on vehicles with modified steering racks, uprights or aftermarket steering geometry components.

Other items to consider: Inspect the opposite outer track rod end, inner track rods, steering-rack gaiters, front ball joints, wishbone bushes and wheel bearings. Any free play elsewhere in the front suspension or steering system can affect alignment and steering accuracy.

Wheel alignment: Replacing a track rod end changes or can disturb the vehicle’s front toe setting. A professional wheel-alignment check is strongly recommended immediately after replacement to restore correct steering geometry and minimise tyre wear.

Useful tools / consumables: Trolley jack and axle stands or vehicle lift, socket and spanner set, penetrating fluid, ball-joint / track-rod separator, torque wrench, suitable measuring equipment for recording the original track-rod position and wheel-alignment equipment after installation.

Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Moderate. Removal may be difficult where the tapered joint or adjustment threads are corroded, and accurate wheel alignment is required after replacement.

Why RIDEX? RIDEX steering components provide a cost-effective aftermarket replacement manufactured to application-specific dimensions and thread specifications. A serviceable track rod end is essential for accurate steering response and maintaining correct front-wheel geometry.

What’s in the box: One RIDEX outer track rod end. Only one unit is supplied; order two if replacing both front sides. Installation tools and wheel alignment are not included.

Installation notes: Before removal, record the installed position of the original track rod end or count the exposed threads/turns to provide an approximate starting point for reassembly. Release the locknut, separate the tapered ball joint from the steering knuckle using a suitable tool and unscrew the old track rod end. Install the replacement to approximately the original position, secure the tapered joint and locknut to the applicable Mazda specifications and check that all boots and joints are correctly seated. Have the front wheel alignment checked and adjusted before returning the vehicle to normal use.
