RIDEX 48R0133 Clutch Release Bearing
Replacement RIDEX clutch release bearing for Mazda MX-5 Mk3/NC 1.8 and 2.0-litre manual-transmission models, plus selected Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Mazda 6, RX-8 and earlier Mazda manual-transmission applications listed in the compatibility table.
The clutch release bearing transfers movement from the clutch fork or release mechanism to the diaphragm spring of the clutch pressure plate. When the clutch pedal is pressed, the bearing moves against the pressure plate to disengage the engine from the gearbox and allow gear changes.
The bearing is installed inside the transmission bellhousing around the gearbox input shaft or release-bearing guide. One release bearing is required per clutch assembly and one bearing is supplied.
Common symptoms of wear include whirring, rumbling, squealing or grinding when the clutch pedal is pressed, vibration through the clutch pedal, rough clutch engagement or noise that changes as the pedal position changes. Because gearbox removal is normally required, the bearing is commonly renewed whenever a clutch kit is replaced.

Fitment advice: This release bearing is suitable only for vehicles using an applicable manual gearbox and one of the corresponding Mazda reference numbers shown below. Automatic-transmission vehicles are excluded. Clutch and gearbox specification can vary within the wider Mazda model ranges, so the original bearing profile, dimensions and guide arrangement should correspond with the replacement. For imported, modified or previously repaired cars, matching the part number or component style on the part being replaced is recommended.
Other items to consider: When changing this part, you may also want to consider purchasing a complete clutch kit, clutch pressure plate, friction disc, pilot bearing or spigot bearing, clutch fork, fork pivot, retaining spring, gearbox input-shaft seal, rear crankshaft oil seal and suitable manual gearbox oil.
Useful tools / consumables: Vehicle lift or trolley jack and axle stands, transmission jack, socket and spanner set, extension bars, torque wrench, clutch-alignment tool, suitable puller where required, brake cleaner, high-temperature clutch-fork lubricant and thread-locking compound where specified.
Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Advanced. Replacement normally requires removal of the gearbox from the engine, safe support of the transmission and accurate reassembly of the clutch-release mechanism.
Why RIDEX? RIDEX parts are aftermarket replacement components designed to provide a cost-effective repair option for everyday vehicle maintenance and refurbishment. They are intended to replace the original component on the applications listed, helping restore function while keeping repair costs sensible.
What’s in the box: One RIDEX clutch release bearing. A clutch fork, retaining clips, guide sleeve and other clutch components are not included unless physically present in the supplied package.
Installation notes: Remove and support the gearbox according to the vehicle workshop procedure. Inspect the clutch fork, pivot, guide sleeve and gearbox input shaft for wear or damage before installing the new bearing. Clean the bellhousing and guide surfaces, taking care not to contaminate the clutch friction surfaces. Apply only a very small amount of suitable high-temperature lubricant to the specified fork pivots and sliding contact points; do not grease the bearing face or clutch friction surfaces. Confirm that the bearing engages correctly with the fork or retaining spring and slides freely on the guide. Refit the gearbox without allowing its weight to hang on the clutch disc or input shaft. Tighten all bellhousing, gearbox and driveline fixings to the applicable vehicle specifications and check clutch operation before road use.
