RIDEX 193B0055 Inner CV Joint Boot Kit – Transmission Side

Replacement RIDEX transmission-side CV joint boot kit for Mazda MX-5 Mk1/NA 1.6, MX-5 Mk2/NB and NB-FL naturally aspirated models, plus selected Mazda 323 and Mazda 6 applications listed in the compatibility table.

The CV boot forms a flexible protective seal around the inner constant-velocity joint where the driveshaft connects to the gearbox or differential. It retains the lubricating grease inside the joint while preventing water, grit and road contamination from reaching the joint’s internal components.

This boot is fitted at the transmission-side or inner end of the applicable driveshaft. One boot is used per CV joint and one replacement boot kit is supplied. The number required per vehicle depends on the drivetrain layout and whether one or both driveshafts are being repaired.

Common reasons for replacement include splitting, cracking, hardened or deteriorated rubber, loose retaining clips and CV grease being thrown around the gearbox, driveshaft or underside of the vehicle. Replacing a damaged boot promptly can help prevent dirt entering the joint and causing accelerated wear.

Fitment advice: This is the transmission-side or inner CV boot and should not be confused with the wheel-side outer boot. The confirmed MX-5 Mk1/NA application is limited to the 1.6-litre models within the 90–115 PS catalogue range. Mk1 1.8 models are not included. MX-5 Mk2/NB and NB-FL fitment is limited to the naturally aspirated 110–146 PS applications; the 181–185 PS turbo model is excluded. Confirm that the existing boot dimensions and joint arrangement correspond with the replacement before dismantling. For imported, modified or previously repaired cars, matching the part number or component style on the part being replaced is recommended.

Other items to consider: When changing this part, you may also want to consider purchasing the opposite-side CV boot, wheel-side CV boot, complete CV joint, replacement driveshaft, gearbox or differential oil, driveshaft oil seals, hub nut and any required retaining clips or circlips.

Useful tools / consumables: Vehicle lift or trolley jack and axle stands, wheel-removal tools, socket and spanner set, driveshaft-nut socket, torque wrench, ball-joint or track-rod separator where required, circlip pliers, CV boot clamp pliers, soft-faced hammer, drain tray, degreaser, workshop towels and the correct CV joint grease.

Difficulty guide: DIY Difficulty: Advanced. Replacement normally requires removal or partial removal of the driveshaft, dismantling of the inner joint and thorough cleaning before repacking it with grease. Care is required to preserve the joint components and avoid damaging gearbox or differential oil seals.

Why RIDEX? RIDEX parts are aftermarket replacement components designed to provide a cost-effective repair option for everyday vehicle maintenance and refurbishment. They are intended to replace the original component on the applications listed, helping restore function while keeping repair costs sensible.

What’s in the box: One RIDEX transmission-side CV joint boot installation kit. The product is catalogued as a complete installation kit; the precise clips, grease and smaller fittings supplied should be checked against the physical package before installation.

Installation notes: Support the vehicle securely and remove the relevant driveshaft according to the vehicle layout. Drain gearbox or differential oil first where driveshaft removal will release lubricant. Mark the position and orientation of joint components before dismantling. Remove the damaged boot and clean the joint thoroughly, inspecting the tracks, rollers or bearings for corrosion, scoring or excessive movement. Do not install a new boot over a severely worn joint. Fit the new boot without twisting it, repack the joint with the correct grease and secure both ends using suitable clamps. Reinstall the driveshaft carefully to avoid damaging the transmission oil seal, use new self-locking fixings where specified and tighten all hub, suspension and driveshaft fasteners to the applicable vehicle specifications. Check for grease or oil leakage after installation.
