The fuel injector is an electrically controlled valve that meters and atomises petrol into the engine’s intake port. The engine control unit operates the injector in precisely timed pulses to maintain the required air-to-fuel mixture during starting, idling, acceleration and normal driving.
The injector is fitted between the engine’s fuel rail and intake manifold or cylinder-head intake port. One injector is required per cylinder and one individual injector is supplied. A four-cylinder engine uses four injectors in total.
Common symptoms of a failing, restricted or leaking injector include difficult starting, uneven idle, hesitation, reduced performance, misfire fault codes, increased fuel consumption, excessive emissions or a strong fuel smell. Fitment advice: For the Mazda MX-5, this injector is confirmed for Mk3/NC 2.0-litre petrol models using the L3G5-13-250 injector reference family. The MX-5 1.8-litre application is not included. Wider Mazda fitment varies according to engine and the injector originally installed. For imported, modified or previously repaired cars, matching the part number, connector and injector body style on the component being replaced is recommended.

Installation notes: Work only with the engine cold and depressurise the fuel system before disconnecting any fuel pipe or rail component. Disconnect the battery, clean the surrounding area and remove the fuel rail according to the vehicle layout. Prevent dirt from entering the fuel rail and intake ports. Remove the old injector and inspect the rail, retaining clips and electrical connector for damage. Fit new compatible seals where required and lubricate them lightly with a suitable clean lubricant before assembly. Install the injector squarely without twisting or cutting the seals. Refit the rail and fuel connections, tighten all fixings to the applicable vehicle specifications and reconnect the electrical plugs. Prime the fuel system and inspect carefully for leaks before starting the engine. After starting, check again for leakage, stable idle and stored fault codes.
